Hey KOCONUTS! Welcome to the KOCOWA Korner. Our very own “kozy korner” of the internet where we can sit back and discuss K-Dramas.

Have you ever wondered about the history of chaebols or the significance of someone’s blood type? What about the ever-changing K-Drama tropes and trends?

Every month we’ll create a blog post to talk about different K-Drama related topics.

This month it’s all about the beloved Grumpy x Sunshine Trope! It’s a drama staple, because we all love watching a cheerful lead melt the grumpy, icy exterior of their love interest. In the past, the female lead has usually been the “sunshine” and the male lead has usually been “grumpy” but now sometimes it’s the opposite, which is refreshing.

One of my favorite dramas featuring this trope is “Still 17”. The male lead’s a serious grump and the female lead is a ray of sunshine. Want to see the opposite? Check out “Angel’s Last Mission: Love”. Both are available for streaming on KOCOWA now.

  1. Most fave is Crash Landing On You followed by My Love from the Stars

    • Those are classics! I’m rewatching Crash Landing On You as we speak 🙂

  2. Young Lady and Gentleman would be one! The male lead was a bit mellow, I cannot say grumpy and the female lead was the sunshine! I really enjoyed this drama.

    • I keep hearing good things about this drama. It’s definitely on my watchlist.

  3. Coffee Prince had a super grumpy male lead and sunshine female lead! It still goes down as one of my all-time favorites. For the opposite, maybe Secret Garden? Would you say the female was the grumpster in that and the man was the upbeat one? Or maybe he was just strange, haha!

    • I think he was just strange hahaha. I will NEVER forget that sparkly tracksuit.

Coffee Prince is a great classic <3
