We covered the female characters in the previous post and now it’s time to compare the men’s fashion in “The Penthouse” series. The Penthouse” is widely talked about not only because of the actors’ acting skills but also because of the way they dress. In “The Penthouse”, Um Ki Joon plays Joo Dan Tae, a successful real estate genius and Bong Tae Kyu plays Lee Kyu Jin, who is a total mama’s boy and the only son of a legal conglomerate.

These two have very different characteristics and personalities, which is expressed by  the way they dress.

  • Joo Dan Tae, played by Um Ki Joon, is a perfectionist who has a bad temper and a cold heart. This is shown by  his clean, coordinated attire. He always wears his hair back in a very chic and sleek style with no piece out of place. His outfits are rather simple and plain, but he wears a watch or glasses to complete his whole perfectionist, affluent, businessman look.

  • In contrast, Lee Kyu Jin, played by Bong Tae Gyu,  has a very unique style when compared to the others. He is portrayed as a mama’s boy and a cry baby who listens to everything his mother says. Lee Kyu Jin is very well-known for his fashion due to two things: he only wears the designer brand Thom Brown and there is a philosophy behind the way he dresses. Bong Tae Gyu once said at the premiere press conference, “There are certain rules requested by the clothing brand in the drama. I thought it was a good way to portray my characteristics, which is always doing what’s told by my mother.”The actual brand Thom Brown has its own conservative fashion philosophy and it guides its consumers on exactly how to wear their clothes. Bong Tae Kyu believed that following this philosophy and wearing this brand only, was the perfect way to portray the mama’s boy side of his character.

Interesting, right? What do you guys think of their fashion choices? Whose fashion choices are better for defining their character?
