As a huge K-Drama fan, I know that we all want to watch every drama that piques our interest and is also worth viewing. Unfortunately, there are so many K-Dramas showing each month that this is simply not possible for everyone. Now, this is where I want to help!

There’s an upcoming sageuk K-Drama that stars Park Ju Hyun, Kim Young Dae, Kim Woo Seok, and Kim Min Ju premiering this weekend on KOCOWA, and I’ll be listing 4 reasons why you should add this K-Drama to your watch list!

1. A Rom-Com Historical Fusion K-drama Adapted From a Popular Web Novel

I know some people, like me, are not huge fans of historical K-Dramas that only focus on politics inside the palace, but this one is different! “The Forbidden Marriage” is a fusion sageuk romantic comedy-drama, making it more than just a simple sageuk K-Drama.

Set in the Joseon dynasty, this drama follows King Lee Heon, who issued a marriage ban after the death of the crown princess seven years ago when he was still a crown prince, and con artist So Rang, who claims to be able to channel the spirit of the late crown princess!

It’s not often that a historical drama incorporates elements of the rom-com genre, so the fact that this one is based on a popular web novel makes it more intriguing.

2. Has a Powerhouse Casting

The cast of “The Forbidden Marriage” is packed with talent, from experienced actors to up-and-comers and beyond. Park Ju Hyun, who plays a girl-crush role on the popular NETFLIX series “Extracurricular,” will be the main attraction in the drama. Since then, she has co-starred with Choi Jin Hyuk in “Zombie Detective,” a fantasy comedy, and Chae Jong Hyeop in “Love All Play”, a sports romance. The drama also stars Kim Young Dae, who gained a lot of attention after starring as Namju in “Extra-ordinary You” and Kim Seok Hoon in all three seasons of “The Penthouse“!

Rising actor Kim Woo Seok, who has been in numerous supporting parts before this, and former IZ*ONE member Kim Min Ju also star in the drama. This marks Minju’s first acting project after disbanding from said group. Many seasoned performers, like Choi Deok Moon, Yang Dong Gun, Park Sun Young, and others, appear in “The Forbidden Marriage.” With such a stellar cast, it’s little wonder that anticipation for this drama has been building.

3. Beautiful and Exciting Teasers and Posters

MBC has been promoting “The Forbidden Marriage” with teasers, posters, and still cuts, and it’s clear that this isn’t going to be your typical sageuk K-Drama. Just like this teaser poster, it shows that So Rang is an important figure that needs to be found during the Joseon era! It makes us wonder, what did she do?

We learn more about the three leads’ personalities and relationships via this group poster and character poster. Youngdae is set to portray the king, Juhyun a con artist, and Wooseok a high-ranking official in Joseon!

4. Wide Range of Themes

You may expect to see a wide range of themes in “The Forbidden Marriage,” from first love to second chances, tragedy to an unexpected relationship, and beyond.

King Lee Heon and Crown Princess Jayeon, played by Kim Young Dae and Kim Min Ju, will introduce the series’ first love and tragic love story theme. The King of Joseon still hasn’t gotten over the death of his crown princess seven years ago, and the drama’s major plot centers on the subsequent marriage ban. The unexpected friendship theme will be formed when Sorang gets entangled with King Lee Heon and Lee Shin Won, and I really think they’ll be my next favorite trio!

I’m sure we’ll uncover and discover additional reasons why we should add this drama because it hasn’t premiered yet. But I’m hoping that, if you’ve made it this far, you’ve already added “The Forbidden Marriage” to your December K-Drama watchlist!
