If you thought campus life couldn’t get any messier for Bunny, Episodes 5 and 6 of Crushology 101 will prove you delightfully wrong.
These episodes are all about aftermaths, awkward glances, and Ex drama. And if it’s tropes that you want, you are in for a treat.
“Crushology 101” Episode 5 Recap
We pick up on the steps, of course, with Jae Yeol confessing his feelings and then passing out. Bunny dreams about Jae Yeol proposing to her in an elaborately decorated room and then jumping to her walking down the aisle in a white wedding dress. Too bad the police show up to arrest her and Jae Yeol does nothing to save her.
Of course this was just a dream and both are pretty embarrassed when they wake up in the morning and see each other again.
They show some funny drunken moments with the two of them from last night, and all day long Jae Yeol finds himself struggling with his own blossoming feelings. He’s been the grumpy guy up until now, but his mask is slipping.
Jae Yeol knows this about himself and tries to play it cool, but he’s everywhere Bunny goes, always ready with a sarcastic quip or a protective hand, clearly just wanting to be everywhere she is. For instance, he saves her a seat in the library to study, and when the lights go out, he helps her walk down the dark stairs safely.
Even Bunny’s friends start to notice that Jae Yeol’s constant appearance wherever Bunny is looks a lot like love.
Ji Won, on the other hand, is always there with a supportive word or a quiet gesture, like buying her cold medicine when she is sick. This annoys Jae Yeol to no end because Ji Won has an instant “in” with being the same major as Bunny, so they naturally end up together a lot.
During a blackout on campus, Bunny and her friends gather in the dorm lounge, candles flickering, samgyupsal and snacks everywhere, and the kind of giddy energy that only comes from college togetherness. Jae Yeol shows up with a usual scowl, mostly directed at Ji Won, who is there as well.
After enjoying a lot of samgyupsal, the friends accidentally set off the smoke alarm, and Jae Yeol and Ji Won ran back to save the day (they had left to buy some more snacks).
That night, Jae Yeol gathers enough courage to call Bunny just to hear her voice. She plays that off and starts to chat about random things. They hang up quickly, but it is clear that Jae Yeol is smitten and goes out of his way the next day to meet up with her.
But he accidentally meets up with his mother instead, which instantly sours his mood. He confronts her about only wanting him to get child support money, thus cementing his tortured hero status. But his stepmother counters that she gave him everything he ever needed and looks honestly hurt by this accusation.
Bunny meets with Jae Yeol after this, and they share a moment in her studio where they connect. He even puts her hair up into a ponytail. He gives her the medicine he bought and, stunned, she tells him that she already got some (from Ji Won).
Enter a love rival for Bunny in the form of the most successful Yeon University graduate – Han Yeo Reum. Who just so happens to be Jae Yeol’s past love.
After Bunny gets a tough criticism from her sculpting teacher, she decides to go home to be alone. While there, she overhears her parents talking about how hard it is to keep Bunny in school, but they are determined to see her graduate.
Earlier, Ji Won noticed how bummed Bunny was after that criticism and decides to take her out for a fun night on the town. So he picks her up from her place, and they go cruising. After that, they hang out at the Han River and chat. As the night winds down, Bunny confesses her worries to him, and he tries to cheer her up. Okay, swoon. Bunny is touched, and it seems like she might finally have the relief she needs from a tough day.
But that night, after dropping her back off at home, all she thinks about is Jae Yeol.
The next day on campus, Bunny, Jae Yeol, and Ji Won are caught in a three-way moment where each boy is concerned about Bunny’s health. But then in comes Han Yeo Reum, the most popular graduate of the school and Jae Yeol’s ex. She addresses Jae Yeol comfortably, which ignites Bunny’s jealousy. And just like that, this love triangle turned into a love square.
“Crushology 101” Episode 6 Recap
The most popular graduate, Yeo Reum, is back on campus, and she’s not subtle about wanting Jae Yeol’s attention. They go out for coffee, but Jae Yeol is not trying to reminisce and leaves quickly.
Meanwhile, Bunny is out with Ji Won and friends but can’t stop thinking about Jae Yeol and Yeo Reum. Her friends notice and tell her she has nothing to worry about, Yeo Reum, she’s Jae Yeol’s ex-girlfriend, not his current one. She plays it off and acts like that has nothing to do with her.
After an old image of Jae Yeol and Yeo Reum circulates around campus, Jae Yeol runs to find Bunny to potentially explain. But she cuts him off, feeling more hurt by herself than by Jae Yeol.
Bunny returns to her element, hunched over her sculpture in the campus studio, blocking out the world. But she accidentally cuts herself, and Ji Won rushes to the rescue, tissue in hand. He asks if she would like to go out to eat with him and his sister, and she agrees. It ends up being a nice dinner out that goes well into the night. Ji Won’s sister clearly sees that he is smitten with Bunny.
Meanwhile, Jae Yeol has been looking for Bunny all over with no success.
The next day, Ji Won tries to step up his game and says they should eat at that place again. She agrees and says he is clearly a good brother to his sister. Then they chat casually about their sculpting assignments, but it seems this time it’s Bunny trying to cheer Ji Won up.
Ji Won goes out with Bunny and her friends for coffee, where she hears about being an extra in a film and agrees to do it with her friend. Afterward, while walking around campus, a stray ball from the basketball court flies in the air, headed for Bunny’s head. Jae Yeol hops out of nowhere and grabs it before it hits Bunny’s head, leading to another awkward moment between Ji Won, Jae Yeol, and Bunny.
And also, say hello to a new handsome suitor for Bunny! Let’s call him the basketball guy.
After hanging out with her parents and watching the news, where she sees Han Yeo Reum on TV, she goes to the extra shoot and runs into Jae Yeol with his signature “I’m-not-here-to-see-you-but-I-totally-am-so-don’t-call-me-out-on-that” energy.
He tries to act casual, but asks her if she was taken aback by him dating Yeo Reum back in the day. He wants to tell her about it and says there is nothing between them anymore. He doesn’t want her to get the wrong idea.
It is an intimate moment, but this moment does mess up one of the filming shots, causing the director yell cut, which completely ruins the mood. However, this does give him the excuse he needs to hold her hand, to which her heart explodes into a million Cupid’s arrows.
And if that wasn’t enough, it starts to rain, so he drapes his jacket over the both of them, leading to another intimate moment between them. But the moments don’t stop there. Jae Yeol is completely transfixed by everything Bunny does and can’t stop staring at her, even as she fixes a painting that got water all over it.
The producer of the film is impressed and offers her a job if she is ever looking for one.
Bunny gets some advice from her friends on the Jae Yeol and Yeo Reum situation, but her friends are split on it. One thinks that the two of them being exes is no big deal, while the other thinks it is a super big deal. Her friend says she can choose to trust him, but she has to make that decision.
Bunny wants to trust Jae Yeol, so she agrees to go on a date with him to have pasta later on.
Meanwhile, Ji Won is quietly stepping up his game. He’s always been Bunny’s safe harbor, but now he’s making his feelings a little more obvious. He buys Bunny a coffee and hopes to get closer to her, but all she talks about is her upcoming date and what that could possibly mean.
They continue working late into the evening, and we get a moment when Ji Won wipes sculpting dust off of Bunny. Of course, Jae Yeol walks in right then, ruining the mood, and the two have a standoff in the stairwell about their feelings for Bunny.
We get a bit more insight into Jae Yeol’s breakup with Yeo Reum. She is the one who broke his heart, then he went off to the military, and when he came back, he saw Bunny for the first time. So that is what that military flashback was all about.
But now Yeo Reum will not leave him alone. In a standoff with her, he is basically like, “You had your chance with me, and now we’re done.” But she follows him to his meeting with Bunny and tells him all her feelings, grabbing his arm so he won’t walk away from her again.
Bunny is left walking away from the two of them.
But, he pulls himself away from his ex and runs after Bunny, pulling her to face him and gives her their first kiss. ALERT – Bunny’s heart is officially in freefall.
