“Crushology 101” Episode 9 Recap
Jae Yeol and Bunny are officially an item! The entire first part of the episode is spent seeing them being cute to each other as they count up the days, via coffee cups, to their 100 days together. They are immensely happy, so of course something is going to come in to interfere with that.
Enter Bunny’s Ex, the one from the first episode that she punched, who is back on the scene for the sole purpose of causing problems. He visits Bunny in her studio and angrily picks up a hammer to smash her with it! But Ji Won rushes in to her rescue, and the cops take the ex away, hopefully for good this time. The campus thinks Ji Won is a hero, and they also think he is Bunny’s boyfriend, making Ji Won power up to increasing levels of jealousy.
But Bunny has bigger problems because she has to fix her sculpture for any chance of winning the scholarship.
Bunny works diligently day and night on her sculpture to try and fix it for her best chance at winning. Ji Won is right by her side with anything she might need. Jae Yeol is hovering, though not interfering in Bunny’s progress. He wants to spend time with Bunny, but he doesn’t want to ruin her chances at the scholarship by hanging out with him.
However, he does know he needs to get some face time in with Bunny, so he visits her at home and meets her parents. The meal is as cute and awkward as you can imagine, as Bunny’s parents give Jae Yeol more attention than he probably expected.
Bunny heads back to the studio and continues to work hard, falling asleep on the couch. Ji Won sees her there and thinks about that time he told another girl that there was someone he liked. Even if he can’t be with that person, he just likes being by her side. But from his longing glances, we know he really wants her to like him too.
He puts a blanket on Bunny, which is witnessed by Jae Yeol, The Jealous (his new name, just kidding). Jae Yeol softly wakes up Bunny and walks her home. On their walk, he gives her a hug and wishes everything will go well with her evaluation.
But Bunny’s piece isn’t picked as the main piece. She is bummed about it, but she will still get a chance to exhibit. To make matters worse, her parents got taken by a scammer and lost a ton of money. Bunny really needs to win this scholarship.
Her friends know she is bummed, so they take her out for drinks to see where her head is at. Ji Won is in the friend group as well. However, they all know the life of an artist trying to fulfill their dreams is a tough one. The problem is, Ji Won texts Bunny to hang out and can’t get a hold of her.
But his friends see Bunny out drinking with Ji Won (and her two friends) and definitely tell Ji Won about it. So, when he catches Bunny passed out on Ji Won’s shoulder, you can imagine how upset he is.
This isn’t the first time Ji Won has been there when he hasn’t, and this isn’t the first time he has told Ji Won to get lost. This time, he does not mince words when he tells Ji Won to stay out of his and Bunny’s way.
“Crushology 101” Episode 10 Recap
We open with Jae Yeol dropping Bunny off at her home while making sure to explain that he isn’t the one who got her drunk. Bunny wakes up the next morning with a vague recollection of the evening’s events and knows that she did wrong.
They meet up, and he asks her why she was out when she was supposed to be resting at home. She tells him her plan was to rest at home, but her friends dragged her out. She’s sorry he had to find out that way.
To make amends, she tells Ji Won they need to keep their distance.
Meanwhile, Jae Yeol sees Bunny’s dad as a deliveryman and takes him out for coffee. Bunny’s appa tells him that they are in some financial trouble because of him so he has to do what he has to do to fix it.
Jae Yeol did not know about this, and he might feel even worse because he got some good news. He got into the second round in the contest he entered a few episodes ago, and told this to Bunny in the middle of all this drama.
Bunny’s dad tells him not to tell Bunny that he is a deliveryman. I know Jae Yeol is thinking, I can keep it a secret, but you’re delivering food to her college, so she’s bound to find out, lol. Nevertheless, he agrees, and Bunny’s father leaves thinking Jae Yeol is a pretty great boyfriend.
But Bunny thinks Jae Yeol must hate her because she hasn’t seen him since she got drunk with Ji Won. However, they are on the same frequency because Ji Won goes to Bunny’s house just as Bunny leaves to find him. The parents love this and give them plenty of room to chat in Bunny’s room.
They chat like understanding adults, and Jae Yeol finds out that Bunny didn’t tell him about her financial problems because he had just told her about his good news, and she didn’t want to ruin the mood. He tells her to always tell him what is on her mind, he wants to know. So she tells him that she applied for a scholarship to study abroad in the US.
Later on, they look at her old photo album and accidentally get caught almost about to kiss. But Bunny’s father takes it all in stride, and they all go out and watch the snow fall together. However, her studying abroad stays on his mind into the next day.
We find out quickly that Bunny gets the scholarship! She is about to go to the States. In a surprising development, Ji Won’s sister asks him to go to the States with her as well. Thinking he has lost Bunny for good — and not knowing that Bunny has gotten this scholarship — he agrees.
While out to dinner, and after Jae Yeol helps Bunny’s Dad keep his delivery job a secret, Bunny tells Jae Yeol that she got the scholarship. He tries to be happy for her. But this is short-lived when they get a call that Bunny’s father has been in an accident and is in the hospital. He is banged up pretty bad with several broken bones, but okay for the most part.
Luckily, Ji Won called in a favor and got an amazing surgeon to come in on her day off to perform the surgery. Jae Yeol is the one who contacted him. They both share a moment of distant appreciation, even though they don’t like each other.
Ji Won uses this hospital moment to tell Bunny that he knew her father was a deliveryman, but her father didn’t want him to tell Bunny. She wishes he would have told her anyway, but she forgives him regardless.
Lucky for Jae Yeol, this means they need a lot more help around the house when the father is discharged, so Jae Yeol gets to help them put up all their Christmas decorations. While there, Ji Won strolls by, is caught by Bunny’s mother, and tells Bunny that he is going to the States with his sister to help her get settled in New York.
Jae Yeol knows that Ji Won will be in the States with Bunny and makes a last-ditch effort to get Bunny to stay. He lays all his feelings on the line about his concerns. She tries to tell him he has nothing to worry about, but if we have learned one thing about Jae Yeol, it’s that he worries and overthinks everything.
Bunny is shook and wonders if she is making the right decision. Her mother tells her to be true to her feelings. Bunny decides she still wants to go and tells Jae Yeol this later on at his place. He wants her to think about him. They are at an impasse.
They do not see each other in the days leading up to Bunny leaving for the States. She texts him, hoping she will see him one last time, but has to head to the airport before getting a message back.
Her family and friends send her off with lots of love. At the same time, Jae Yeol realizes how selfish he has been and how lucky he is to have Bunny choose him. He thinks back on all their moments together and runs to Bunny at the airport.
But he is too late, the gates are closed. He checks his phone and sees a last message from Bunny saying, “I am leaving, take care of yourself.”
In the next episode, I’m sure we will find out what happens during Bunny’s one year away. Will Bunny fall in love with Ji Won in New York, aka Jae Yeol’s worst fear? Or will she stay true to Jae Yeol? Considering how he left her high and dry, I would say she is an unattached lady who can date or not date as she wishes. Sorry for ya, Jae Yeol, but you kind of brought this on yourself!
