I am on one heck of an emotional roller-coaster ride on these two episodes! Why are there so many impossible loves in this drama? I was very happy to see Dan Dan finally being happy and officially going out with Young Guk. But, (this is a BIG BUT) everyone around them seems to be furious about this relationship, including Dan Dan’s father, Soo Chul. Age is just a number right?!?!? They are both adults and they definitely do not have wrong intentions toward each other… I was happy, then sad, then angry! If you guys didn’t watch the latest episodes yet, here is a short recap of episodes 37 and 38 of “Young Lady and Gentleman.”

The previous recap:

Episode 37 and 38 Recap:

  • Finally Putting a Ring on it!
young lady and gentleman kdrama

Young Guk finally puts a ring on Dan Dan’s finger, telling her he no longer wants to hide their relationship. FINALLY! (screaming hallelujah!) They both look sincerely happy, especially Dan Dan, after having to wait all this time and going through all those troubling situations, she officially has a boyfriend!!

  • Dae Ran Goes Mad!

After spotting Mi Sook at Soo Chul and Dae Bum’s chicken restaurant, Dae Ran barges in and causes a scene. Typical K-drama “grabbing someone by the hair” and flipping the table and stuff.

  • MORE CRINGE

After Young Guk and Dan Dan put an “official” title on their relationship, they freely express their feelings toward each other. Giving each other good night messages, good night air kisses, and etc… (leaving the viewers with a massive cringe…)

  • Se Jong’s Bday!

Young Guk, Dan Dan, and all the kids go to a villa to celebrate Se Jong’s bday, where Se Chan finds out about Young Guk and Dan Dan going out. Se Chan was the one who initiated the plan to be the love bridge for Young Guk and Dan Dan, so he is super excited that his plans finally worked out. However, not everyone is happy about this relationship. Sa Ra followed them to the villa to give Se Jong his birthday gifts and has mixed feelings after seeing how happy everyone looked…

  • Sa Ra and Dae Ran Team Up, AGAIN

After Sa Ra saw Young Guk and Dan Dan officially going out, Sa Ra is once again delusional and thinks that the reason Young Guk called their engagement off was because of Dan Dan. Sa Ra calls Dae Ran to tell her about this and says Dan Dan was the rat behind all of this all along. (Which is a total shenanigan) Of course, Dae Ran buys this and plans to destroy Dan Dan.

  • Ana Kim Spots Young Guk and Dan Dan

Ana Kim coincidently spots Young Guk and Dan Dan together late at night and starts to worry because of their age difference. And, of course, because Ana Kim is Dan Dan’s biological mother, it’s obvious to have these kinds of concerns toward Dan Dan.

  • Young Guk’s Revelation…

Young Guk reveals that he has a girlfriend, Ana Kim… Young Guk introduces his girlfriend to Ana Kim and Dan Dan shows up with a big smile on her face. Ana Kim is shocked, but Dan Dan and Young Guk are too after Ana Kim just runs out of the restaurant… Ana Kim confronts Dan Dan and says she cannot approve of this relationship and points out things that seem to be concerning. But Dan Dan doesn’t take it. Soo Chul then spots the two of them arguing and Ana Kim tells him about what’s going on

  • Soo Chul is Furious

Dan Dan brings Young Guk to introduce him to the rest of her family, but Soo Chul is enraged and kicks him out. Soo Chul is furious and does not approve of this relationship. When Dan Dan and Young Guk go on a trip, Soo Chul barges in to take Dan Dan and lock her in her room.. (I thought there was only a happy ending left… but another hurdle…)

  • Se Chan and Se Jong Visit Dan Dan’s Home

Se Chan and Se Jong visit Dan Dan and are devastated to see Dan Dan being locked in. They sob and yell at Soo Chul about how cruel he is to lock her up. (You cannot watch this scene without tissues...) Young Guk comes and takes the kids back home, but everyone is sad to see them go.

  • Dan Dan Runs Away

After lying to her grandmother, Dan Dan manages to escape and runs as fast as she can back to Young Guk’s house. Soo Chul quickly follows with his motorcycle, but unfortunately gets into an accident…

  1. Only one episode this week. Will we be watching this still in April?

    • KOCOWA Reply

There will be total of 50 episodes so I believe it will end probably end of March. or Maybe early April

  2. Has Soo Chul slowly become the villain? I find myself sympathizing with Ana Kim more and more. He’s oppressive and overbearing, and violent. Any reasonable parent would have concerns with DD dating YG, but that’s not the way to deal with things.

It was nice to see DD stand firm on things and act tough a little, even if she broke down when she was locked up.

We can see YG wavering in the trailer, but I hope it’s only momentary.

I think keeping things Jae-Ni is a mistake, because I think they are wrong when they think she is their biggest concern among the kids. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s known about YG and DD for a while, and it would be nice if she became the bridge between DD and her father resolving things. She’s had too little to do lately so something big is coming. Very talented young actress too.

Thank you for the very thorough insight! I mean.. Korean parents tend to be real strict like how Soo Chul can be? overprotecting DD’s feelings but I totally get where he is coming from. Yet like you said, I sympathize with Ana Kim too but only with the current situation. It was horrible for her to just abandon them two when DD was a baby. And I think because the perspective differences in Korea, Soo Chul being overbearing is in a way understandable. Age gap is huge in Korea. BUT I do wish this couple a happy ending.

      • I’m sure I’m overthinking things, I don’t think the show is trying to be too complex. Everything seems to be black and white and I’m just being swept up in the craziness! Also as a non-Korean person sometimes it’s hard to tell if something is just a cultural difference or if it’s something that is meant to be taken as wild even to a Korean audience. I know it’s the kind of show that is supposed to polarize people emotionally.

I totally understand what you mean by that. Even sometimes (as a Korean), it is hard to relate. These types of dramas tend to have ‘makjang’ elements where things are emotionally very exaggerated. And foreign viewers might see this as cultural differences. However, other than emotions, the underlying problems in K-Dramas are very likely to happen in real life. Like in this case, family trying to take away money, disapproving the relationship. BUT I must say, YG having amnesia and becomes a 22 yr old then come back to him old self is definitely taken as wild no matter where we are from LOLLLL!!

          • I definitely recognize a lot of the themes common in many different dramas. I like the extremes in the story though it really helps you get behind many of the characters and wish that others get what they deserve.
